Interview Tips
Try to solve easy questions first to maximize the score. Out of 70 odd students only 12 were selected for further rounds.
Round 2

Group Discussion

Duration
10 Minutes
Group Discussion Topic
Is the investment in space exploration justified for India.
Interview Experience
It was a simple topic and everybody spoke without any hustle (which happens a lot in GD's). Observers were sitting in the corners and they told the shy ones to speak. GD ended in about 5 minutes and only two people were eliminated out of group of seven.
Interview Tips
GD's are primarily done to check our command on language. Try to speak valid points and have a common conclusion in the end. People who mentor the group always get the benefit.
Round 3

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
It was a technical + HR interview conducted by a panel of 4 people. In the beginning we have to give a presentation for two minutes on a random topic given by them. After that I was asked to introduce myself. Then I was asked few questions related to my family background. They asked about one favourite subject from each candidate followed by few questions.Interview was on shorter side and ended in about 10 minutes. HR did not asked much questions. One person scanned the CV throughout the interview.
Interview Tips
Have thorough knowledge of your favorite subjects (atleast two subjects). One should be well versed with automobiles. Training is important and questions are asked on that. One should have strong and clear fundamentals along with interest to work with them. All the best

I was interviewed on-campus at NIT Rourkela for Ashok Leyland
Interview Process
Test Group Discussion Technical Interview Technical Interview
Round 1

Test

Test Sections
  • Section 1: There were two levels. First the written round where the paper was divided into 3 sections (Aptitude, Basic technical and Core technical). Next were the PI round for both technical and HR.
Interview Experience
After getting rejected at few companies I started practicing aptitude problems and reading about the basics of all the chapters of my branch. It’s not mandatory for anyone to study all your branch papers and score 100% in written exams. To crack the written test the most important point that one should follow is solve 90% of aptitude questions and 50% of our technical questions
Interview Tips
I was rejected at BAJAJ and TATA HITACHI as I couldn’t clear the written exams. I did not practice much aptitude questions, I think this is the primary reason
Round 2

Group Discussion

Interview Experience
I used to ask all my peers and seniors regarding the GD topics they faced during their time. You can find recent topics in the internet, but what really matters is how you express yourselves. Your approach and communication skills are tested. Master the English language, read newspapers
Interview Tips
NA
Round 3

Technical Interview

Round 4

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
First of all I figured out my strengths and weaknesses. My strength was my summer project that I did during my training at Maruti Suzuki, Gurgaon. Secondly since it was an automobile company I have also prepared well with my basics of automobile engineering and IC Engines. I was having a little lack of confidence regarding attending the tricky HR questions, as mostly what you answer that will never by fully correct so I have prepared for answers that will at least impress the interviewer and give him an impression that this guy is willing to do the job and has a strong determination to learn and excel within the company.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
Initially I had a very less practice of aptitude problem hence faced a bit problem in clearing the written exams. Other than this I was not opting for any non- core or analytics company hence I have to focus on the detail study of my branch paper as per the requirement of the company.
General Tips
Practice aptitude questions during summer this will help u reach the interviewer where you can exhibit your skills. Stick to the basic fundamentals of whatever you study. Take your internship very seriously and don’t just visit the company for a certificate. Before going to any company interview first do your homework and learn about the job profile and the history of the company.
Motivation for applying
From the very beginning of my engineering carrier as a mechanical engineer I have dreamt to be a part of an automobile company and finally I got placed at Ashok Leyland. So, Yes!!

Interview Process
Test Technical Interview HR Interview
Round 1

Test

Duration
90 Minutes
Test Sections
  • Section 1: Aptitude Test
  • Section 2: Reasoning / Analytical
  • Section 3: Technical
Interview Experience
Technical questions asked were not based on facts but based on the application of the basic knowledge which we had learnt in physics.of basic level which just needed some commonsense.Verbal English was very easy and analytical and aptitude were also of the basic level.
Round 2

Technical Interview

Interview Experience
First of all,I was asked to choose my favourite topic which was Thermodynamics. Then, the questions asked were very simple like : Represent Otto cycle ; Define zeroth law etc. Then, the next set were based on my industrial training experience and questions about turbines were posed ,once again they were very basic. Then, general questions based on measurements like:how would you measure the thickness of a paper,What is a differential; What are the different machining processes; How does power transmission take place in an automobile; How are the shafts checked for their size and diameter etc.
Round 3

HR Interview

Interview Questions
  • Question 1: Tell me about yourself
  • Question 2: Why did you enter mechanical field?
  • Question 3: Will u be prepared to work anywhere in India for the company?
  • Question 4: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Interview Experience
It was a very short interview...for about 15 minutes...there were only two panelists...one technical and one HR.Overall experience was good.I just tried to show to them that I had passion for the automobile field and the Ashok Leyland.I couldn't answer all the questions,so,answering all questions also does not guarantee one a selection.
Skills

Skills Tested

Skill Tips
Be relaxed and cool.No need to be too serious or tensed.Make sure you speak whatever you know clearly and confidently.Be interactive. One does not need to go into a shell...But,to have a better chance, be confident with the basics of your fav. subject, your training subject,I.C.Engines and automobile parts etc.,Basics of manufacturing processes. As far as the HR is concerned, try to exhibit a great amount of passion for the company and for the field because more than what you have done thus far, they are more concerned with what you are going to do after you join the company. So,they should know, you would be working for the company with full dedication and that you have been waiting for the company to come over to the campus. This will do wonders as you can make up for the unanswered questions.
